Popery and Potpourri

My online papist friend Victor Morton wrote this obituary of
John Paul II for his Moonie-owned newspaper, the Washington Times.

Perhaps John Paul Jones will convert, be elected, and not have to change his name. We could have the rockinest papacy ever.

Catholic-Hierarchy is an interesting website where you can find detailed history about all the different dioceses and historical bishops and such.

For example, by following links back, you can find that Archidioecesis Angelorum in California was split off from the Diocese of Monterey-Los Angeles in 1922, which was split off from the Diocese of Sonora in 1840, which was split off from the Diocese of Durango in 1779, which was split off from the Diocese of Guadalajara in 1620, which was split off from the Diocese of Michoacan in 1548, which was split off from the Diocese of Mexico in 1536, which was split off from the Diocese of Tlaxcala in 1530, which was erected in 1525 and is, curiously enough, now the Archidioecesis Angelorum.

I like that there was once a Vicariate Apostolic of Idaho and Montana.

There’s also a titular see of Oreo.
