  1. What’s with this?
    “There are 300 tribes, with people considered either Arab or African.”

    Um, do they mean “Arab or Black?” I think Arabs whose ancestors have lived in North Africa for centuries would be surprised to learn they’re not African.

  2. He meant “Arab or African.” Apparently some of the folks identify as Arabs, and others as Africans. Looking at photos of them, you’d be hard-pressed to guess who is who. My light reading about the region has left me mostly confused about the ethnic situation.
