Catholic Worker Gathering, Worcester

June 30-July 2: Please join us from Friday evening until Sunday noon to celebrate the first 20 years of the Saints Francis & Thérèse Catholic Worker community.

Events will be held at the Phelan Center at Blessed Sacrament Church, 551 Pleasant St, Worcester, MA.

Schedule

Friday:

  • 4-5pm: Vigil against the Iraq War, Lincoln Square, Worcester.
  • 5pm: Welcome at the Phelan Center, 551 Pleasant St, Worcester.
  • 6pm: Dinner at the Phelan Center.
  • 7-9pm: Panel discussion on “Catholic Worker History.” Led by Professor David O’Brien of Holy Cross College, Professor Michael Boover of Anna Maria College and the Mustard Seed Catholic Worker, and Claire Schaeffer-Duffy.

Saturday:

  • 9-11:30am: Small group workshops at the Phelan Center. Bring ideas for topics. Suggestions include “Hospitality,” “Catholic Worker Journalism and the Internet,” and “Peacemaking in a Time of Endless War.”
  • noon-4pm: Picnic lunch and swimming at Rutland State Park.
  • 6pm: Dinner at the Phelan Center.
  • 7pm: Slide show on the Saints Francis & Therese Catholic Worker by Scott Schaeffer-Duffy.
  • After the slide show: Music & dancing.

Sunday:

  • 9-11am: Additional workshops.
  • 11:30am: Outdoor mass and closing at SS. Francis & Therese Catholic Worker, 52 Mason St, Worcester. Mass will be celebrated by Father Bernie Gilgun on the Mustard Seed Catholic Worker. (In case of rain, mass will be held at the Mustard Seed, 93 Piedmont St, Worcester.)
