Regarding Pirates — This could totally be a project in conjunction with the MA Pirate Party. (Which reminds me I really need to talk to them about an interview…) Also, Planksgiving.

Regarding beards, I believe the case of Joseph “Persecuted for Wearing the Beard” Palmer was discussed in Albert Southwick’s Once-Told Tales of Worcester County, which I don’t have in front of me. While he was attacked (physically) for wearing a beard in Fitchburg in 1830, he was actually jailed for a year in Worcester because he refused to pay a fine for defending himself. The American Scholar has an excellent article about Palmer.

A person with an awesome beard who does a ton in the community is Scott Guzman.

Scott’s is by far the most-requested beard.

I continue to pine for a decent photo of Bill Coleman with a beard.
