Antifascist protesters block streets, hit reporter, get arrested in Worcester

Kim Ring for the T&G: Protesters who blocked streets, chanted slogans arrested in Worcester:

A group of 50 young men and women, many wearing handkerchiefs tied over their faces, carried an effigy of Donald Trump and a large sign reading Antifascist Action New England.

I am told 3-7 6 7 people were arrested. This was an “Anti-President’s Day” event.

Kim was the reporter who was hit: “Thanks guys! I’m fine. Took a couple of whacks. I wish the protesters would have commented what they were protesting.”

This is really, really not my kind of protest, but I post it here as part of my general interest in civil disobedience (broadly defined) in Worcester. This has got to be the first Worcester protest with both some violence and multiple arrests in a long time.

  1. Reason? What reason. As Abbie Hoffman advocated: “Revolution for the hell of it.” All but two arrested were from out of town or out of state. These people need advice from truly “old time” (the ’60s and on) resistors, demonstrators and peace and justice activists and find out which Saul Alinsky tactics and Gandhian methods really work, for what, when, how and why. A good study of the First Amendment might be in order.
