Hiroshima Day 2010, Worcester, Massachusetts

posted by Mike on August 6th, 2010

17 people gathered at Worcester City Hall today to repent, as Americans, for the 1945 atomic bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, and to call for nuclear disarmament.

Dave Griffith posted his great Hiroshima essay Pictures of the Floating World on his site today, in one of those Scribd-type crazy formats.

    I received this note:

Oxford [England] CND [Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament] and Christian CND are organising a commemoration of Nagasaki Day.

THIS SUNDAY August 8th by the Riverside Centre at Donnington Bridge starting with a picnic and lantern making at 6pm.

with an address by BRUCE KENT, Imam Mubarek Basra and Cllr David Williams, music, reflections.

At 8.30 people will launch the candle-lit lanterns, in the Japanese tradition, into the Thames.

This floating of lanterns has drawn more and more people each year. Please come along and bring friends and food/non-alcoholic drink for the picnic.
